• Identify, excavate, and record potential archaeological sites • Wash and/or process artifacts for laboratory analysis • Assist with laboratory tasks associated with post-field activities • Support Phase I through Phase III historic and/or prehistoric investigations • Follow GAI, client, and OSHA health and safety policies • Maintain client confidentiality • Excavate, screen, and collect archaeological materials according to state and federal standards • Identify and record archaeological features and structures • Document and map survey areas, testing locations, excavations, and cultural resources • Complete paper and electronic field forms • Record soil color and type using a Munsell soil chart • Use a compass for basic orienteering • Manually remove brush and vegetation • Work outdoors and hike across varied terrain while carrying tools and equipment • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor • Manage personal tasks and meet deadlines and scope • Coach or mentor less experienced staff and potentially lead a small crew • Stay on budget and schedule • Discuss technician work performance with managers • Convey field results clearly to senior cultural resources staff
• B.A. or B.S. degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or a related field; A.A. or B.A./B.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or associated degree; or equivalent skills and experience • Minimum one to three years CRM experience in North America preferred • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience • Experience in archaeological field excavation techniques, artifact identification, data recording, mapping, and surveying • Completion of academic field school preferred / enrolled in field school • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Willingness to travel required, up to 100% during weekdays and occasional weekends • Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions • Ability to hike off-trail over rugged terrain while carrying up to 25 lbs of gear • Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 40 lbs • Ability to extensively dig, shovel, screen soils, and manually clear brush/vegetation • Independent means of transportation preferred • Pre-employment drug testing required • Driver's License required • Steel-toed shoes required • Ability to work with or without a supervisor and take direction • Basic knowledge of soils, photography, compass/navigation, field forms, and sketch maps • Ability to obtain and maintain basic field kits and company-issued field equipment
