• Support cultural resources projects across the mid-Atlantic and Midwestern regions • Identify, excavate, and record potential archaeological sites following state archaeological standards • Participate in Phase I through Phase III historical and/or prehistoric investigations • Follow required health and safety policies specified by GAI, clients, and OSHA • Maintain appropriate client confidentiality • Excavate, screen, and collect archaeological materials • Identify and record archaeological features and structures within project rights-of-way • Photograph and map survey areas, testing locations, excavations, and observable cultural resources • Complete paper and/or electronic field forms accurately • Record soils using a Munsell soil chart • Use a compass for basic orienteering within project vicinities • Manually remove brush and vegetation when necessary • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions • Hike off-trail while carrying tools and equipment • Manage personal tasks and adhere to deadlines and project scope • Maintain and upkeep company-issued field equipment • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
• 1–2 years of experience in archaeological fieldwork, or equivalent skills and experience • A.A. or B.A./B.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or an associated degree; enrolled in field school; or equivalent skills and experience • Experience with excavation and screening • Ability to identify and record archaeological materials, features, and structures • Accurate field notes and completion of paper or electronic forms • Sketch mapping and basic photography skills • Soil recording using a Munsell soil chart • Basic compass use and navigation skills • Basic oral and written communication skills • Ability to work positively in a team environment and take direction • Willingness to travel up to 100% during weekdays, with occasional weekend travel and/or work • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying and extreme weather conditions • Ability to hike off-trail while carrying up to 25 lbs of gear • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs • Ability to extensively dig/shovel and manually clear brush/vegetation • Must possess steel-toed shoes • Must possess a driver's license • Must obtain and maintain a basic field kit • Ability to follow GAI, client, and OSHA health and safety policies • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
