📋 Description

• Perform physical design-related tasks for substation engineering projects • Provide technical guidance, training, mentoring, and leadership to CAD/design staff • Manage, design, and perform design checks for one-lines, physical arrangements, grounding, conduit, lighting, lightning protection, and rigid bus analysis • Produce associated drawings using client-specific CAD software • Create physical layouts and substation designs integrating protection and control drawings • Create project criteria and develop design specifications and bills of materials • Design and size auxiliary systems, including AC/DC load centers, batteries, and chargers • Design and size conduit and high-voltage conductor • Order long-lead item materials • Perform and document QA/QC reviews of drawing packages • Maintain record documents and communicate review information to the team • Participate in and/or develop substation physical design training • Provide leadership, coaching, onboarding, and mentoring to subordinate staff when required • Travel to other offices, meet with clients, and attend project-specific meetings • Manage tasks across multiple projects according to GAI project-management standards • Assist with scopes of services and cost estimates for Substation and P&C projects • Determine optimal solutions using engineering and financial judgment • Manage shifting deadlines, scope changes, competing priorities, project barriers, and unexpected developments

🎯 Requirements

• Associates or better in Drafting or related field preferred • 14 years of related experience required • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Microstation • Experience utilizing 3D CAD software preferred (Inventor, P4I, etc.) • Experience with high voltage substation projects from 12kV through 500kV • AEP/FE experience preferred • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities • Resource management skills and ability to identify and mitigate project barriers • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and unexpected developments • Ability to work extended hours or after hours when required • Ability to travel for meetings, training, or business purposes • Required driver's license • Ability to work indoors in professional office settings and sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks • Ability to lift and carry office materials or equipment weighing up to 10–20 pounds, with or without assistance
