📋 Description

• Lead direct reports, civil engineering sub-disciplines, and contractors • Lead and coordinate civil engineering design team assignments and responsibilities • Plan resources, recruit and hire, retain employees, conduct performance coaching, and plan salaries and bonuses • Guide lead civil engineers during project launch and execution • Manage engineering processes and interfaces with partners and suppliers • Allocate civil engineering resources and review or approve design subcontractors • Develop quality procedures, processes, and knowledge-capitalization initiatives • Coordinate design efforts across discipline managers, internal consultants, external consultants, and subcontractors • Drive delivery to customers on time and on budget • Manage civil engineering design budgets, schedules, technical change orders, and quality • Track engineering KPIs including on-time deliverables, Say-Do ratio, average days late, cost of poor quality, and project budget deviations • Support design strategy, design tasks, deliverables, resource assignments, design safety, code compliance, and project performance • Conduct team meetings and performance development meetings; review development plans and perform skills mapping • Support proposal teams with resources, technical validation, scope and labor-hour reviews, execution plans, and clarifications • Update resource and workload plans and monitor utilization, billable time, budgets, design changes, non-conformances, and training • Manage technical interfaces with subcontractors and partners and validate input data • Analyze customer technical requirements and ensure compliance • Establish civil design strategies and project deliverables based on tender and contract analysis • Validate technical options, optimize costs, and resolve technical conflicts • Prepare subcontracting bid packages and check subcontractor deliverables and performance • Support sourcing and procurement with technical specifications, subcontracting strategy, and supplier evaluations • Lead lessons learned, design validation, and functional knowledge capitalization • Ensure quality procedure compliance, support audits, and resolve non-conformances • Develop Lean methods through training, Lean projects, Kaizens, and other initiatives • Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure adherence to safety policies • Lead business growth and transformation initiatives to increase competitiveness and productivity • Coach civil engineers, recognize and retain talent, plan succession, and level resources

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university • 15+ years of experience with high voltage substation civil/structural design, including EPC projects • 5+ years of experience leading a substation civil engineering team • Professional Engineering License in the United States and willingness to review and seal drawings • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including internationally, and comply with company travel and tax policies • 5+ years of experience managing civil engineers, including resource loading, performance reviews, recruiting/hiring, training/development plans, and salary planning • 15+ years of experience in civil structural design and execution of high-voltage substation EPC projects in the United States and Canada • Project Management experience on power systems EPC projects • Background in Substation 3D design including BIM (Revit) models • Experience in technical problem solving and detailed knowledge of civil and structural engineering applications related to high-voltage electrical substations • Experience reviewing architectural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing drawings for high-voltage substation buildings • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills • Fluent in English, speaking and writing • In-depth knowledge of US/Canada utility customer design and construction standards and North American industry codes and standards • Experience leading an engineering team supporting tendering and execution teams • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is desired
