📋 Description

• Provide subject matter expertise across the critical minerals and materials value chain, from upstream mining to downstream manufacturing and circularity • Support DOE CMEI technical and programmatic efforts involving mining, processing, separation, refining, metallurgy, batteries, magnets, advanced materials, recycling, and circular economy approaches • Produce or review client deliverables including market and supply chain assessments, technical memos, landscape scans, program design inputs, stakeholder summaries, and briefings • Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve critical materials security through supply, alternatives, manufacturing efficiency, and reuse/recycling strategies • Support stakeholder engagement with industry, states, communities, laboratories, and other partners • Translate technical topics into clear, actionable insights • Contribute to communications products such as fact sheets, case studies, website copy, and outreach materials • Support proposal and capture efforts with technical solutioning, win themes, and rapid-turn inputs • Work on-call and flex time and workload based on project needs • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients while delivering timely, high-quality guidance

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geology, metallurgical/materials engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, earth sciences, or a related technical discipline • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in critical minerals and materials • Experience in one or more of mining/mineral economics, mineral processing, separation/refining, metallurgy, battery materials, rare earths, recycling/circularity, manufacturing supply chains, or resource strategy • Strong understanding of critical mineral supply chain risks and resilience strategies • Understanding of the intersection with energy technology, manufacturing, and national security objectives • Experience producing client-ready technical deliverables such as memos, reports, and briefings • Excellent interpersonal skills • Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams and work directly with clients and stakeholders • Ability to work effectively in an on-call capacity, flexing time and workload based on project needs • Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline preferred • Experience supporting federal programs, preferably DOE, or national lab/innovation ecosystem engagements preferred • Familiarity with supply chain diversification, processing/metallurgy innovation, battery/magnet R&D, and battery materials/black mass recycling preferred • Experience with techno-economic analysis, cost/market modeling, or supply chain scenario analysis preferred • Experience with circular economy program design or recycling system assessments preferred • Sustainability experience in mining and materials processing preferred • Familiarity with permitting/regulatory context preferred • Strong data analysis skills using Excel and/or equivalent tools preferred • Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, SME, Certified Professional Geologist, PMP, or other relevant credentials preferred
