JHU EEHPC is the Energy Efficient High Performance Computing Lab at Johns Hopkins University, led by Tinoosh Mohsenin. The lab focuses on designing medical, health, and wearable devices and developing tiny, energy-efficient wearable and mobile computing systems through cross-layer approaches spanning algorithms, architecture, hardware, and system integration. It applies high-performance computing and artificial intelligence methods to smart health monitoring, robotics, autonomous navigation, and related domains, aiming to revolutionize healthcare, transportation, and public utilities.

📋 Description

• Serve as a confidential, neutral, impartial, and informal resource to staff, graduate and postdoctoral students, fellows, and programs • Manage part of the Ombuds Office caseload by listening to questions, complaints, and concerns • Provide answers, help visitors develop options, and identify relevant policies, offices, or individuals • Work with the University Ombudsperson on complex and challenging visitor concerns • Coach visitors through difficult conversations with supervisors, colleagues, mentors, students, fellows, and affiliates • Facilitate constructive conversations and mediate conflicts when appropriate • Help visitors understand options and resources for discrimination and harassment concerns, including formal complaint processes • Provide a safe venue for discussing concerns and exploring informal resolution • Bring appropriate people together to develop options and creative systemic solutions • Track office activities and maintain de-identified data for annual reports • Identify service gaps, policy gaps, and recurring issues and discuss them with the University Ombudsperson • Adhere to the International Ombudsman Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice • Assist with workshops, trainings, and educational programs on conflict resolution, communication, and collaborative problem-solving • Attend regular meetings with the University Ombudsperson for case discussion and reflective practice • Engage in professional development related to higher education and ombuds practice • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• PhD, JD, or equivalent advanced degree in Conflict Resolution, Organizational Development, or a related field • Advanced certificate in mediation recommended • Three years of relevant experience • Knowledge of higher education and research environments strongly preferred • Certification in mediation and/or completed Ombuds Foundations Training given by the International Ombudsman Association; training may be completed upon hiring in some cases • Outstanding oral and written communication skills • High degree of integrity, discretion, and professionalism • Strong organizational skills • Commitment to fairness, respect, and a safe, inclusive, non-discriminatory environment • Ability to manage difficult conversations with skill, integrity, empathy, and respect • Demonstrated skills and experience in facilitation, mediation, and/or conflict resolution • Mature judgment and sensitivity to the academic and research environment • Successful candidate subject to a pre-employment background check • Faculty, staff, and students required to receive the seasonal flu vaccine, subject to stated exceptions
