📋 Description

• Extend Airwall onto new classes of devices and hardware targets • Own embedded software on constrained targets, including OpenWRT and ARM-based platforms • Work in the secure data path, including identity-based overlay networking, IPsec/ESP, IKE, tunnel encapsulation, NAT traversal, Layer 2 over Layer 3, and certificate-based PKI identity • Modernize the Airwall technology stack to improve performance, observability, and maintainability • Diagnose hard networking failures in live customer environments using packet-level analysis • Contribute to core codebases and improve code quality, testing, and performance • Mentor engineers and serve as a technical role model • Use AI coding tools such as Claude, Copilot, Codex, or Cursor in the normal workflow • Communicate directly with customers running the protected networks • Deliver software that reaches production and performs reliably

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years shipping production networking software, with significant embedded or kernel-adjacent systems experience • Deep expertise in C, C++, or Rust, with ability to work across all three • Command of networking Layers 2 through 4 • Ability to reason from the wire upward and read packet captures unaided • Hands-on embedded Linux experience on resource-constrained hardware or OpenWRT • Working knowledge of IPsec, ESP, IKE, encrypted transport, certificate-based identity, and PKI • Track record of shipping into environments where downtime has serious consequences • Clear communication and sound judgment across product and engineering teams • Preferred: Host Identity Protocol (RFC 7401) or another identity-based networking overlay • Preferred: Operational technology or industrial control systems experience, including BACnet or Modbus • Preferred: Hardware bring-up, board support packages, or firmware release engineering exposure • Preferred: Contributions to open source networking projects
