Our National Conversation (ONC) is a nonpartisan media platform dedicated to fostering inclusive and civil dialogues among American citizens regarding politics and public policy. The organization aims to free political discussions from hyper-partisanship and encourage intelligent conversations across diverse perspectives, ultimately working towards a better future for the country.

📋 Description

• Write political content for ONC, including OpEds and Policy Proposals for the website • Create consistent website content with the Core Content Writers team • Ensure nonpartisanship, ideological diversity, and civil debate are reflected in published work • Participate in civil dialogue with conservative, progressive, and moderate writers • Focus on policy areas including Governance, Economics, Infrastructure, Healthcare, Foreign Policy and Defense, Justice and Public Safety, Social Issues, and Science, Environment and Technology • Participate in podcasts, events, and other assignments as needed • Collaborate through political discussion in a respectful, nonpartisan environment • Potentially help write a book published by ONC • Attend weekly Core Content Department meetings on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. EST • Coordinate work primarily through Zoom and Slack

🎯 Requirements

• Working towards a degree in Political Science, Journalism, English or Literature, Public Policy, Media Studies, International Relations, and/or related fields • Exceptional writing skills in English • Proficient verbal communication/speaking skills are a plus • Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict • Experience in policy research, political commentary, political science, or a related domain preferred • Enthusiasm for ONC’s mission and values, including willingness to participate in polite debate with people of diverse and opposing political perspectives • Ability to work remotely and on own schedule in order to meet deadlines • Google Workspace experience preferred • Ability to attend weekly Organization-Wide meetings • Ability to attend weekly Core Content Department meetings • Must be authorized to intern in the U.S. • Must commit to at least the end of the current semester • Must submit a writing sample with the application • Must be comfortable coordinating via Zoom and Slack • Interest and experience in at least one of ONC’s eight policy areas, preferably two or three
