• Follow CLIA guidelines to correctly identify the patient before any specimen is obtained • Verify all test requisitions are properly filled out • Obtain the proper sample (i.e., whole blood, serum, plasma) by performing venipuncture and/or fingerstick • Label all samples with the two (2) unique identifiers • Maintain proper labeling of all tubes, primary and pour-off tubes (daughter tubes) • Maintain proper documentation and identification of samples for transport to the laboratory • Ability to perform blood culture collection without contamination of site or sample • Know the proper techniques for collection of timed, fasting, or random collections • Be able to explain the proper collection for urine, stool, sputum, or culture swabs • Observe all safety protocols for the Client’s facility when you are collecting samples • Follow all Universal Precautions and OSHA Standards when handling biological specimens • Strictly adhere to HIPAA Regulations • Maintain daily tallies of collections performed • Inform Phlebotomy Supervisor when a significant shift in collection volumes is noticed • Be aware and request supplies as needed to fulfill daily duties.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent • Phlebotomy Certificate (proof of certification required upon hire) • Computer and technology proficient • Must maintain a current driver’s license and clean driving record
