• Develop state-of-the-art instruments to collect data for mineral exploration programs • Simulate, characterize, and calibrate sensor performance • Design new data acquisition systems • Work with vendors and partners to build hardware • Deploy hardware with operations staff in the field • Build models using sensor and other data to identify ore-forming processes and predict ore-grade mineralization in 2D and 3D • Build a worldwide dataset while identifying and quantifying uncertainty in data and predictions • Create models and develop software to accelerate discovery of critical battery metals • Work with data scientists, engineers, and geoscientists to incorporate geological, chemical, and physical process knowledge • Identify new opportunities and technologies for geophysical data collection • Create 2D and 3D geologic predictions and identify exploration targets • Design field programs, collect data, reduce uncertainty, and guide subsequent field work • Design, develop, and deploy mineral exploration data collection instruments and methods • Develop proprietary software exploration tools • Find, curate, and integrate geospectral, geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic data • Create visualizations for model evaluation and interaction with underlying data • Apply data processing, statistical, physics-based, computer vision, and geophysical inversion techniques • Present to and collaborate with external partners and stakeholders • Implement spatially aware clustering, anomaly detection, and other rigorous analysis methods • Collaborate on algorithms combining large and complex datasets for mineral exploration
• Demonstrated ability to quickly absorb and synthesize complex information, with a track record of high intellectual rigor in a professional setting • Exceptional curiosity and eagerness to learn • Successful track record of developing complex equipment with cross-disciplinary teams and vendors • Extensive experience with physical measurement and data analysis systems using optics, electromagnetism, radiation, and gravity • Experience applying scientific knowledge to identify and prototype emerging technologies • Experience with systems integration and data acquisition • Extensive experience with Python’s data science packages and general software engineering practices • Experience with collaborative software development using git, unit/integration test suites, and CI/CD pipelines • Experience with SQL and familiarity with non-relational databases • Experience with cloud computing resources • Experience building, applying, evaluating, and interpreting predictive models • Experience with data analysis, physics analysis, and applied statistics on data from physical systems • Capacity to apply ML to mineral exploration, understand geology and mineral exploration practices, and work with limited, disparate, and noisy data sources • Experience deploying sensors in the field • Ability to take ownership of large projects • Ability to work directly with geologists in the field • Ability to explain technical problems to domain experts who are not software developers • Ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada • 10–20% travel required
