• Evaluate and respond to hospital referrals to determine potential organ/tissue donors • Apply LifeLink policies and procedures while documenting referral timeliness and responses • Provide direction to responding staff • Gather information for determining potential donors, BD/DCD potential, medical suitability, and order of priority/next of kin • Participate in the Referral Coordinator call schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage • Coordinate with the FCC and Hospital Development staff for timely onsite visits in collaboration with the Administrator on Call • Maintain 24/7 cell phone and computer access with real-time documentation • Work with the Administrator on Call and Medical Director on technical referral and clinical donor-evaluation issues • Perform referral evaluations and preliminary suitability determinations • Verify donor information and next-of-kin details • Access the Donor Registry and notify on-call team members of potential donor situations • Review the donation process and planned response with hospital personnel • Monitor active referrals daily and maintain documentation in iTransplant • Handoff active referrals to the oncoming Referral Coordinator according to protocols • Follow up with Hospital Development Liaisons, Administrator on Call, FCC, and vascular staff • Coordinate with CSD and Tissue Screener regarding referrals that are not candidates for organ donation • Triage miscellaneous calls from CSD • Interact with County Coroners and State Medical Examiners to ensure proper clearance documentation • Assist with orientation of new staff • Complete assigned projects and meet deadlines • Participate in hospital development initiatives, OPO meetings, special projects, QAPI activities, and other assigned duties
• Minimum of one year in a related LifeLink position and/or appropriate credentialing and experience, which may include a medical-related degree/certification (RN) or appropriate experience in a medical environment • Completion of all requirements of the probationary level position or other related experience/position • Demonstrated above-average verbal communication skills and phone etiquette skills • Availability to handle rotation of 24/7 call responsibilities and a work schedule that may require response to emergency back-up call coverage • Understanding that confidentiality must be maintained according to Foundation protocols • Local/state auto/air travel is required • Variable/rotation on-call days/hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays • Ability to use sound judgment • Ability to multi-task • Advanced organization and attention to detail • Advanced planning and prioritizing • Advanced confidentiality and discretion • Ability to implement policies and protocols • Bachelor's degree or better
