📋 Description

• Provide accurate interpretation between LEP patients and hospital personnel • Educate individuals and staff on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices relevant to encounters • Act as a conduit of information for clinical services, including medical terminology and support services, to LEP patients • Inform LEP patients about the interpreter's role and limitations • Serve as a cultural mediator to enhance communication between patients/families and medical care teams • Explain hospital resources, office protocols, and limitations to clinicians and patients; make appropriate referrals • Develop relationships with LEP community focus groups focused on community needs • Provide verbatim interpretation to preserve the medical record and convey message meaning in the target language • Listen effectively and convey the speaker's intent, tone, style, and language level

🎯 Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED • 1 year experience in human or health services • Ability to adhere to interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics • Ability to continuously perform the same type of work for extended periods of time • Ability to interpret and translate on a daily basis in possibly stressful situations • Exhibit excellent listening skills • Knowledge of medical terminology and/or specialized vocabulary • Understanding of the subject matter to effectively convert source language to target language • BTG - Bridging the Gap - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire • Lift and carry 25 lbs.; frequent sitting/standing; frequent keyboard use • Ability to perform role-specific patient care activities, including kneeling, bending, squatting and CPR, where required
