📋 Description

• Perform patient accounting duties at a professional and primarily independent level • Carry out responsibilities in billing, collections, credits and customer service • Follow ethical billing practices and patient accounting policies and procedures • Provide exceptional customer service using AIDET • Complete special projects and assigned reports • Maintain awareness of insurance company updates and federal and state guidelines • Review, edit and submit claims • Follow up on denied claims and resubmit claims until resolved • Answer billing inquiries from patients, guarantors, families, attorneys and third-party payers • Conduct detailed patient discussions and provide information to billers, Patient Financial Advocates and other departments • Calculate patient balances and establish payment plans or other payment arrangements • Contact patients regarding outstanding balances, financial assistance and payment arrangements • Prepare and submit insurance and self-pay refund requests • Follow up with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, workers’ compensation and commercial payers on refunds • Assist walk-in customers and callers with billing, financial assistance and payment processing • Manage daily cash drawer, reconciliations and deposits for multiple locations • Work with case management to secure patient valuables • Sort and distribute team mail • Perform all other assigned duties

🎯 Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital, medical office or clinic setting in healthcare preferred • Previous education or experience in medical billing, or graduation/certification from a medical office program preferred • Must have or be able to acquire and retain good knowledge of commercial, federal and state payer requirements • Good telephone voice and skill in handling business transactions, including irate patients • Ability to work with computerized systems • Basic clerical and interpersonal skills • Typing speed of 40 wpm • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel • Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills • Must comply with the employer’s federal drug-free workplace policy prohibiting marijuana use
