National Math Stars is a nonprofit organization that identifies, recognizes, and supports exceptionally talented young mathematicians across the United States. It operates a tiered set of programs — Math Awards (free recognition for top ~2% in grades 2–3), Pathfinder Stars (a selective, 10-year enrichment and mentoring pathway for roughly 1-in-1000 talent), and Voyager Stars (a fully funded, 10-year program targeted to high-need students) — and partners with schools and districts to scale outreach and equity. The organization focuses on early identification (starting in 2nd and 3rd grade), long-term wrap-around support, and creating pathways that connect mathematically extraordinary students to resources, mentoring, and advanced coursework.

📋 Description

• Lead the development and maintenance of digital infrastructure for the Awards and Stars programs • Own databases, dashboards, application systems, parent portals/websites, and custom software tools • Monitor and improve existing infrastructure and build new tools from user-needs exploration through testing, launch, and maintenance • Collaborate with outreach and programs teams to understand use cases, workflows, and needs • Maintain and improve CRM systems for tracking outreach, applicants, and Stars program participants • Ensure relevant data is logged and cleaned with minimum friction • Build internal dashboards and tools to help teams understand and act on key information • Conduct user research with team members and participant families • Design, build, and maintain family-facing tools including applicant portals, parent portals, budget utilization trackers, and STEM pathways/badging • Integrate custom builds with CRM databases, email managers, and relevant partner tools • Build an AI-first software development team • Help departments identify and deploy high-leverage automation and AI use cases • Lead technology-related trainings, knowledge sharing, and change management • Build tools, wrappers, and custom connectors to support organization-wide AI usage as needed • Hire, manage, and grow a small in-house end-to-end design and development team • Select and manage contractors as needed • Help set National Math Stars’ strategy with the executive team and Board • Design and build software while serving as a player-coach

🎯 Requirements

• Deep expertise building software end-to-end, from needfinding through deployed-in-production tools • Experience integrating AI into development processes while prioritizing privacy and security • Prior people-management experience • Ability to understand stakeholder needs through deep user research and listening • Ability to develop software solutions from scratch, including user research, product design, development, testing, and launch • Experience as a software architect building structures for high-quality code in an AI-supported collaborative development environment • Ability to identify and implement process and systems improvements • Experience championing and educating teams on automation and AI use cases • Skilled people manager with high standards for hiring and team performance • Experience customizing and maintaining databases/CRM systems preferred but not required • U.S. work authorization required • National Math Stars is not currently able to support visa applications
