Native American Transformer Services, Inc. is a Reno, NV–based electrical services company that supplies, assembles and services large power transformers and turnkey substations. The firm provides end-to-end high-voltage work including transformer installation, rigging and moving, on-site transformer testing, FR3™ retrofills, repair and maintenance, upgrades (LTC and bushings), transformer oil processing, insulation dryouts, and related safety products and testing for high-voltage equipment. NATS serves federal government clients, large utilities and corporations and emphasizes experienced personnel, specialized equipment and engineering capability for managing large power projects.

📋 Description

• Lead engineering assessments and diagnostics for power transformers ranging from 5 MVA to 500+ MVA • Perform and interpret advanced transformer testing, including Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), Power Factor Testing, and Insulation Resistance Testing • Develop technical reports and repair recommendations based on engineering evaluations • Conduct root cause failure analyses and provide refurbishment recommendations • Review and approve engineering drawings, test plans, and work instructions for IEEE and NETA compliance • Travel to client facilities nationwide for engineering oversight and technical guidance • Partner with project managers and operations leaders to deliver projects on schedule and within scope • Mentor junior engineers on transformer applications, testing methodologies, and reliability engineering • Support utility interconnection projects involving substation transformers, collector substations, and renewable generation facilities • Evaluate transformer protection systems, differential relays, overcurrent protection, and system coordination requirements • Develop transformer replacement and modernization strategies • Coordinate engineering activities with utilities, OEMs, EPC contractors, and commissioning teams • Improve transformer asset performance through advanced diagnostics and condition-based maintenance • Ensure compliance with IEEE, NETA, utility standards, and transformer industry best practices

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university • 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience focused on power transformers • Expertise in transformer diagnostics, including DGA, Power Factor Testing, Insulation Resistance Testing, and Turns Ratio Testing • Hands-on experience with root cause failure analysis and transformer refurbishment/replacement recommendations • Working knowledge of transformer protection systems, differential relays, overcurrent protection, and system coordination • Experience supporting utility interconnection projects, substation transformers, and renewable generation facilities • Strong knowledge of IEEE and NETA standards; familiarity with NEC requirements • Ability to review and approve engineering drawings, test plans, and work instructions • Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers • Willingness to travel to client sites nationwide • Preferred: experience with FAT and SAT • Preferred: background in short circuit analysis, load flow studies, and substation engineering • Preferred: experience coordinating with OEMs, EPC contractors, and commissioning teams • Preferred: familiarity with OLTC tap changers, bushings, and insulation systems • Professional Engineer (PE) license listed as preferred
