• Own the technical strategy and architecture for sourcing, preparing, and validating geospatial datasets across target regions • Lead resolution of ambiguous, high-impact GIS engineering problems spanning multiple data modalities, systems, and teams • Define standards and measurable controls for data coverage, freshness, quality, provenance, licensing, reliability, and cost • Evaluate open, public-domain, and commercial sensor data sources and provide technical leadership for provider selection and data partnerships • Architect scalable geospatial processing systems using open-source and internally developed tooling • Design and guide automated postprocessing workflows for geospatial AI/ML pipeline outputs • Contribute hands-on to internal software and tools used to source, process, catalog, and distribute geospatial datasets • Partner with AI/ML teams to anticipate model-development data needs and ensure access to fit-for-purpose datasets • Partner with Pipeline and Product teams to define data requirements, technical interfaces, quality thresholds, and launch-readiness criteria • Lead technical design reviews and drive alignment on architecture, tradeoffs, sequencing, and risk • Mentor engineers, share domain expertise, and establish engineering practices • Communicate technical decisions, dependencies, and risks to engineering leaders, product partners, and stakeholders • Partner with leadership to connect product vision to an actionable geospatial data and technology roadmap
🎯 Requirements
• Master's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience • 8+ years of relevant industry experience • Substantial experience designing and delivering production geospatial data systems in a fast-paced technology environment • Demonstrated technical leadership across complex, cross-functional initiatives • Deep knowledge of geospatial modalities, formats, coordinate systems, and processing techniques • Experience with raster data including orthoimagery, landcover, DTM, DSM, and DEM data • Experience with point clouds, including LiDAR-sourced LAS/LAZ data • Experience with vector data such as Shapefile, GeoJSON, and OSM • Strong software engineering and system design experience for scalable, maintainable, automated data-processing systems • Advanced Python experience for production automation, data processing, tooling, testing, and software integration • Experience assessing geospatial data quality, coverage, provenance, licensing constraints, and downstream fitness • Ability to communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs effectively • Experience integrating LLM-assisted development tools into a Geospatial Engineering workflow where appropriate • Desired: GDAL and PROJ • Desired: Linux and bash • Desired: cloud-based or distributed data-processing workflows • Desired: data catalogs, lineage, metadata, validation frameworks, monitoring, and production pipeline support • Desired: geospatial data for machine learning, computer vision, simulation, digital twins, or large-scale interactive applications • Collaborative technical leadership and mentoring approach
