• Serve as an initial point of contact for patients, physicians, and the public • Provide exceptional customer service during patient, family, visitor, physician, and associate encounters • Accept and make inbound and outbound calls according to customer service standards • Identify patients accurately in the EMR system • Obtain and enter patient demographic and financial information while maintaining confidentiality • Use critical thinking to make decisions, resolve issues, or escalate concerns • Verify insurance eligibility through online systems, payer websites, or telephone • Process faxes and transcribe information into the EMR • Contact care centers regarding urgent patient requests and ensure timely follow-up • Schedule outpatient appointments • Generate, print, and provide patient estimates • Inform patients about outstanding balances, collect balances and copayments, and provide financial assistance information • Answer questions about insurance residuals and self-pay accounts • Select CPT codes accurately from clinical descriptions • Determine patient out-of-network acceptance • Explain billing procedures and hospital policies • Update and annotate accounts using appropriate standard work • Review insurance information and determine the need for referrals or financial counseling • Educate patients on MyChart, including activation • Participate in and contribute to Lean process development • Comply with organizational, state, and federal patient privacy and confidentiality laws and regulations • Confirm physician orders and visit purposes • Verify multidisciplinary outpatient schedules to expedite patient processing • Obtain release-of-information authorization from patients • Handle customer service concerns using conflict resolution and service recovery skills • Resolve patient complaints and concerns or escalate appropriately • Provide information to physician offices and hospital departments when needed
• High school diploma or GED required • Typing speed of 40 words per minute • Excellent communication skills • Organization skills • Basic computer skills • 1–2 years of previous service-industry experience focused on exceptional customer service, or medical office, call center, or collections experience • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with PHI and HIPAA requirements • Knowledge of CPT codes • Ability to verify insurance eligibility and process patient billing information • Ability to use EMR systems • Ability to use online eligibility systems, payer websites, MyChart, and price estimator products • Ability to work day shift • Work authorization limited to Ohio for remote work
