• Code inpatient and/or outpatient hospital records, ED records, Home Health & Hospice records, and/or professional fee services using ICD-9/10 CM and CPT-4 • Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures • Review patients' entire current medical records and assign appropriate CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes for reimbursement and research • Access multiple computer systems to research medical records and complete coding timely • Manage accounts receivable by locating lost documents and ensuring all encounters are coded • Generate appropriate queries as needed • Maintain and disseminate current technical and regulatory knowledge, including ICD-9/10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and HHRG updates • Resolve pre-bill edits, denials, and other issues for assigned accounts • Participate in departmental in-services and coding guideline updates • Communicate issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager • Maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate and average-to-high productivity • Maintain continuing education requirements and perform other required functions
• High school diploma/GED required • Must hold one of the following coding certifications at hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, or RHIT/RHIA with achievement of one of the listed coding credentials within one year of hire • Three to five years of experience as a coder required • Inpatient coding experience preferred • Knowledge of ICD-9/10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and/or HHRG coding systems • Knowledge of coding multiple service areas and/or specialties, or extensive experience in a critical specialty • Maintain continuing education requirements per PHS policy • Must maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate and average-to-high productivity based on PHS standards
