📋 Description

• Review patients' entire current medical records and assign CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes for reimbursement, research, regulatory compliance, and hospital policies • Abstract data for the QI department and The Joint Commission • Access multiple computer systems to research medical records and complete coding timely • Identify lost documents, ensure all encounters are coded, and generate appropriate queries as needed • Resolve pre-bill edits, denials, and other issues for assigned accounts • Maintain and disseminate current legal, regulatory, and coding knowledge, including ICD-9/10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, and HHRG updates • Participate in departmental in-services and coding guideline updates • Communicate issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager and Supervisor • Demonstrate knowledge of coding multiple service areas and specialties • Maintain coding accuracy, productivity, and continuing education requirements

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required • Must have one of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA with achievement of one of the coding credentials above within one year of hire • One-three years experience as a coder required • Computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Experience with an encoder preferred • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record preferred • Ability to use the internet and other electronic resources for research • Must work remotely from New Mexico • Must maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate • Must maintain average to high productivity based on PHS Productivity Standards • Must maintain continuing education requirements per PHS policy
