• Support the Prisma Health Trauma Program and organizational requirements for trauma center verification/designation • Identify patients for inclusion in the trauma registry according to NTDS, State Trauma Registry, and Trauma Center requirements • Abstract clinical data from EMS records, inpatient medical records, referring hospital records, and autopsy reports • Code diagnoses, procedures, and external causes/locations using AIS and ICD-10 coding • Participate in performance improvement and support research by gathering hospital performance and research metrics • Identify and report complications, comorbidities, issues, and trends • Validate and correct registry data using registry software validation tools • Perform monthly logic validations and complete inter-rater validations • Prepare data corrections before State and Trauma TQIP submissions • Perform other duties as assigned
• Associate's degree in HIM or related healthcare field preferred • One (1) year of trauma registry, coding, HIM or relevant healthcare related experience • Completion of AAAM course (AIS coding) and Trauma Registry Course within one year of hire • Completion of ICD-10 Coding course within one year of hire • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes • CSTR or CAISS certification preferred • AHIMA or AAPC coding certification preferred • RHIT, RHIA, or CCS preferred • Critical thinking, organization, time management, productivity, and accuracy skills
