📋 Description

• Set the technical direction for a delivery pod building data products on Voyager, Protective’s Databricks lakehouse on Azure • Lead end-to-end design of data products across Raw/Prep/Prod (Bronze/Silver/Gold) medallion architecture • Own dimensional design, including grain, keys, Type 2 history, facts, bridges, and conformed dimensions • Define data-cleaning, business-logic, and consumer-responsibility boundaries across layers • Partner with ML engineering on contracted, versioned, and reproducible training and feature datasets • Own ODCS data contracts, quality rules, freshness expectations, consumer compatibility, and breaking-change policies • Set engineering standards for Python, SQL, dbt, testing, model structure, naming, and repository conventions • Lead code reviews and ensure quality through tests, asset checks, observability, alerting, and CI/CD • Own pipeline operations, including incident diagnosis, data triage, backfills, tuning, on-call escalation, root-cause analysis, and runbooks • Maintain regulated-carrier controls, least-privilege access, segregation of duties, change management, and audit evidence • Develop reusable frameworks, templates, and patterns • Partner with the Product Owner and Scrum Master on story decomposition, refinement, and delivery readiness • Mentor engineers through design review, pairing, and code review • Collaborate with platform, DataOps/MLOps, data architecture, and governance teams

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered • 6+ years building and operating production data pipelines and consumer-facing data models, from source ingestion through to published data products • Strong hands-on Python and SQL • Hands-on experience with Databricks or a comparable Spark-based lakehouse, including Delta Lake, MERGE, incremental processing, and performance tuning • Deep dimensional modeling experience • Demonstrated technical leadership • Experience owning data that other teams depend on, including handling breaking changes and production data incidents • Experience with orchestration such as Dagster, Databricks Workflows, Airflow, or similar • Experience with Git-based collaborative development, code review, and CI/CD such as Azure DevOps or comparable • Experience setting observability and SLA/SLO expectations for data other teams depend on • Ability to explain trade-offs clearly to engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders • Databricks certification is preferred • Preferred experience with Unity Catalog, dbt, Dagster and Dagster Cloud, data contracts/ODCS, declarative Python ingestion frameworks, data quality and observability tooling, MLOps, Azure and Azure DevOps, regulated industries, and AI-assisted development
