📋 Description

• Manage, maintain, and optimize mission-critical SQL Server databases hosted on AWS EC2 • Support a high-availability, low-latency trading application • Monitor and tune SQL Server performance • Identify and resolve query bottlenecks, index fragmentation, blocking, and deadlocks • Optimize indexes, execution plans, and stored procedures for sub-millisecond latency requirements • Conduct performance benchmarking and capacity reviews • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances • Manage SQL Server instances across Development, UAT, and Production environments • Perform capacity planning, storage management, and performance tuning • Implement and maintain database security, user roles, permissions, and auditing • Design, implement, and manage HA solutions • Develop and maintain DR plans and conduct regular DR drills • Ensure RTO and RPO targets are met • Manage SQL Server deployments on AWS EC2, including instance sizing, EBS volumes, and network configuration • Use CloudWatch, AWS Backup, VPC, Security Groups, IAM, and S3 for monitoring, backups, access control, and storage • Optimize EC2 instance types for memory-intensive SQL workloads • Manage SQL Server licensing in AWS environments • Design and implement backup strategies and automate backup processes • Store backups securely on Amazon S3 • Perform backup validation and restoration testing • Ensure compliance with data retention policies • Implement encryption, auditing, and access controls • Conduct vulnerability assessments and apply security patches • Manage SQL Server certificates and encryption keys • Set up proactive monitoring and alerting • Respond to and resolve P1/P2 database incidents • Participate in 24/7 on-call support coverage • Maintain incident logs and post-mortem reports • Collaborate with application developers, DevOps, and trading system architects • Review and approve database change requests and deployment scripts • Maintain database documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and SOPs • Participate in CAB meetings for production changes

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of experience • Deep expertise in SQL Server administration • Strong understanding of performance and reliability demands of financial/trading systems • Experience managing Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2022 instances on AWS EC2 • Experience managing SQL Server instances across Development, UAT, and Production environments • Expertise with SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, DMVs, and Query Store • Experience with Always On Availability Groups, SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances, Log Shipping, and Database Mirroring • Experience developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery plans and conducting DR drills • Experience with AWS EC2, EBS, CloudWatch, AWS Backup, VPC, Security Groups, IAM, and S3 • Knowledge of EC2 instance types such as r5 and x1e for memory-intensive SQL workloads • Knowledge of SQL Server licensing in AWS environments, including BYOL and License Included • Experience designing Full, Differential, and Transaction Log backup strategies • Knowledge of SQL Server security best practices, including TDE, Always Encrypted, auditing, and access controls • Understanding of financial industry regulations including SOX, PCI-DSS, and GDPR as applicable • Experience with vulnerability assessments, security patches, SQL Server certificates, and encryption keys • Experience setting up proactive monitoring and alerting • Ability to respond to P1/P2 database incidents • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation • Experience collaborating with application developers, DevOps, and trading system architects • Experience reviewing database change requests and deployment scripts • Experience maintaining database architecture diagrams, runbooks, and SOPs • Experience participating in CAB meetings
