📋 Description

• Lead and manage engineering teams in the design and execution of substation and transmission projects for utility, renewable energy, industrial, and commercial applications. • Oversee electrical engineering responsibilities throughout project lifecycle from conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement, construction support, and commissioning. • Manage resource allocation, staffing plans, work assignments, and workload forecasting to ensure efficient project execution. • Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex electrical engineering challenges for transmission level substations (34.5 kV -- 500 kV). • Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with client requirements. • Coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities across electrical, civil, structural, and transmission teams. • Ensure compliance with industry standards including IEEE, NESC, NEC, ANSI, NEMA, NERC, RUS, IEC, OSHA, and local/federal building codes. • Support proposal development, scope definition, work breakdown structure development, scheduling, and budget management. • Maintain and develop client relationships, acting as primary technical point of contact for electrical engineering services. • Oversee development of single-line switching and protection diagrams, three-line diagrams, DC schematic diagrams, relay and control panel layouts, AC and DC auxiliary power systems diagrams and cable/conduit schedules. • Direct equipment specification development and support procurement activities including vendor coordination and equipment review. • Review and approve engineering calculations including AC/DC systems, battery sizing, station service transformer sizing, overvoltage protection and coordination, short circuit analysis, ampacity studies, voltage drop, conduit fill and insulation coordination. • Ensure all engineering documents, records, and construction drawings are properly maintained and meet quality standards. • Provide engineering support to project management, procurement, and construction teams throughout all project phases. • Mentor and develop engineering staff, conduct performance evaluations, and identify training needs and succession planning opportunities. • Facilitate constructability reviews, outage sequencing, and coordination with construction managers and operations personnel. • Support testing and commissioning activities for new or modified equipment energization. • Understand and navigate unique requirements of multiple project types including engineering-only, EPC, turnkey, utility, renewable energy, energy storage systems, and industrial projects. • Make timely and effective decisions on technical and business issues within scope of responsibility. • Ensure adherence to corporate safety policies, quality control procedures, and project management standards. • Coordinate design activities with clients, utilities, vendors, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies including attendance at technical meetings.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, or related field required. • Professional Engineering (PE) license in one or more U.S. states required. • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering with significant emphasis on transmission and distribution substation design (34.5 kV -- 500 kV). • 5+ years of demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams and projects. • Extensive experience in Transmission line and substation protection and control systems. • Extensive experience in Generator, transformer, and bus protection schemes. • Extensive experience in Development of station single-line, protection, control, and SCADA diagrams including utility and ISO interconnection requirements. • Extensive experience with Equipment specifications, designs, and layouts for major equipment and auxiliary systems. • Extensive experience in Physical substation design including general arrangements, clearances, grounding, lightning protection, and structural considerations. • Extensive experience in Capacitor banks and distribution feeder protection. • Extensive experience in Air-insulated (AIS) and gas-insulated (GIS) substation design. • Extensive experience in Greenfield and brownfield substation projects. • Extensive experience with protective relay applications and settings (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, etc.). • Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, NESC, NERC, and other applicable codes and standards. • Demonstrated success managing projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning. • Strong understanding of utility operations, grid interconnection requirements, and regulatory compliance. • Proven ability to lead multi-discipline teams and coordinate across organizational boundaries. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact effectively with clients, senior management, and technical staff. • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities in time-sensitive situations. • Demonstrated ability in mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering talent. • Skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking, and engineering judgment for complex technical challenges.
