📋 Description

• Shape the next generation of Spear AI’s maritime domain awareness platform • Design and implement complex, data-rich product surfaces on Horizon, from initial sketch through production • Identify opportunities to redesign or refine key features, flows, and smaller quality issues • Participate in kickoffs, understand products and audiences, and propose visual and interaction direction • Help write product specifications rather than waiting for completed specs • Champion performance, WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility, and maintainability • Conduct design audits and pull request reviews • Provide review and mentorship to designers and frontend engineers • Set technical direction for owned surfaces • Help scale Design Engineering practices at Spear AI • Contribute across branding, marketing, product development, and the internal design system • Collaborate directly with leadership in a flat organizational structure

🎯 Requirements

• Typically 7+ years of design engineering (design/front of frontend) experience • Senior individual-contributor experience on a high-bar team • Deep understanding of design workflows and surrounding technical constraints • Expertise with Tailwind CSS and modern CSS fundamentals and layouts, including container queries, cascade, specificity, OKLCH, view transitions, flex, and grid • Strong grasp of WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards • Strong grasp of performance metrics including Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse • Experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript • Demonstrated experience designing and building design systems/component libraries used by other engineering teams • Solid Product/UI Design background with strong knowledge of layout, color theory, typography, and visual hierarchy • Fluency in Figma, including variables, modes, auto layout, and component architecture mirroring code • Comfort designing data-dense interfaces such as tables, charts, dashboards, and real-time displays • Portfolio of work must be provided prior to speaking with the hiring team • U.S. citizenship • Willingness to obtain a Secret or Top Secret U.S. clearance • Ability to address security-clearance screening questions regarding foreign-national family members or residence • Bonus: geospatial/mapping experience with Mapbox, MapLibre, deck.gl, or Cesium • Bonus: experience shipping in regulated or secure environments such as defense, finance, or healthcare
