📋 Description

• Perform concurrent analytical reviews of clinical and coding data to improve physician documentation • Evaluate patient records and documentation to assign principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures for accurate DRG, ROM, and SOI assignment • Conduct initial and follow-up patient record reviews through discharge • Query physicians regarding missing, unclear, or conflicting documentation • Identify diagnostic testing reporting issues and develop compliant queries • Educate physicians and healthcare providers on clinical documentation improvement and documentation guidelines • Collaborate with coding professionals to reconcile DRGs and resolve mismatches • Clarify clinical issues supporting accurate DRG, SOI, and ROM assignment • Assist with mortality review and risk adjustment using third-party models • Research clinical topics, coding guidelines, regulatory policies, trends, and healthcare economics • Attend department meetings and continuing education programs • Apply evidence-based scientific knowledge to nursing practice and age-specific patient needs • Troubleshoot documentation or communication problems and escalate appropriately • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, PA, NP, or medical school, or Associate's degree and CCDS certification from ACDIS • Two years' experience in an acute care setting or relevant experience • Required professional license and/or certification varies by state of work location • CCDS certification from the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS), or an accepted medical degree, physician assistant, physician, registered nurse, advanced practice nurse/APRN/APNP, or related state license/certification • For Wisconsin: CCDS, medical degree, Wisconsin PA or physician license, compact-state RN or Wisconsin RN license, or APNP license • Ability to perform frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, repetitive movements, keyboard use/data entry, and lifting/carrying or pushing/pulling objects • Ability to perform occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and handling objects weighing 25–50 lbs.; rare climbing • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
