• Interpret or transliterate academic content so students who are D/HH can access instruction, communicate with the school community, and participate in school activities • Interpret and transliterate content in live, synchronous virtual academic settings according to students’ IEPs • Adapt language and materials to individual student needs • Collaborate with teachers, caregivers, related service providers, and other school community members regarding student progress and needs • Ensure services are delivered in compliance with IEPs • Serve as a member of IEP teams and attend IEP meetings • Provide expressive and voice interpretation of classroom instruction • Clarify curricular content and support work completion • Provide language support in small groups and one-on-one interactions • Interpret for extracurricular activities, school activities outside the virtual classroom, and caregiver meetings • Follow the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Ethics • Liaise between D/HH students, hearing peers, staff, community members, and caregivers • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, caregivers, and school staff • Be available during designated work hours • Serve students across multiple schools and potentially obtain licensure in multiple states
• Minimum 1 year experience interpreting in an educational environment • Minimum 1 year experience providing interpreting services virtually • Experience using one or more signing systems in an educational setting, including American Sign Language (ASL), Manually Coded English, Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE), and/or Finger Spelling • National Interpreter Certification issued by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and/or state-specific educational interpreter licensure • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) • Ability to work independently and be available at least 20 hours per week during typical school hours • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday • Strong content and subject-matter knowledge • Ability to support and guide adults and students • Ability to receive regular coaching • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes • Ability to create and deliver staff development • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Strong organizational and time management skills • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms • Proficiency in MS365 • Ability to clear required background check • Must be self-motivated, dependable, creative, and passionate about meeting student needs
