📋 Description

• Develop and lead a manuscript around an agreed priority research question • Build on existing analyses and data, conducting additional analyses as needed • Produce a submission-ready, publication-quality manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal • Translate complex survey and causal-modeling findings into insights relevant to global health policy and program design • Contribute to Surgo Health’s family planning research and thought leadership in LMIC contexts • Complete analysis for one of three priority papers or propose an original research question • Synthesize existing findings and/or generate new analyses on family planning behaviors and outcomes • Apply rigorous quantitative and/or causal inference methods where appropriate • Draft and revise the manuscript based on Surgo research team feedback • Collaborate with Surgo research scientists on methodology and framing • Produce clean, documented analysis code and supporting analytic materials where appropriate • Attend twice-weekly check-ins with project leads • Optionally present findings to senior leadership • Meet milestones for scope, preliminary results, initial manuscript, revisions, and final submission-ready manuscript • Retain academic independence while following Surgo’s authorship, review, and approval process

🎯 Requirements

• PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher, or early-career researcher in a relevant field (e.g., public health, demography, economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science) • Strong experience in quantitative analysis, survey data, and/or causal inference methods • Demonstrated ability to produce rigorous, publication-quality research • Experience in family planning and reproductive health in LMIC contexts is strongly preferred • Experience in behavioral science and program implementation context is a plus • Comfort working with large-scale, multi-country survey datasets • One prior peer-reviewed publication is strongly preferred; otherwise a scientific writing sample • CV or resume required • Path A written response or Path B concept note, up to 1,000 words • Contact information for two references • Ability to work under a data use agreement and complete onboarding requirements such as cybersecurity training • Submit a submission-ready manuscript and supporting analysis materials by the agreed deadline
