📋 Description

• Abstract patient cancer data into the cancer registry database by reviewing diagnostic and treatment records • Assign cancer staging and code cases according to ACoS, SEER, AJCC, and NAACCR standards • Perform case ascertainment to maintain a complete cancer registry database • Analyze cancer registry data related to cancer occurrence, treatment, management, and outcomes • Prepare accurate and timely reports for medical staff, students, residents, fellows, administration, research, and program development • Perform quality assurance, auditing, error resolution, pathology audits, and missed-case reviews • Conduct follow-up activities for living patients and verify causes of death • Assist with registry operations, staff training, policy updates, committees, and education • Participate in oncology accreditation activities and maintain knowledge of accreditation standards • Maintain HIPAA compliance, confidentiality, and company standards • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Human Anatomy and Human Physiology (6 total credit hours) or equivalent job experience (required) • One year in a hospital or state cancer registry (required) • Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C) by the National Cancer Registrars Association (required) • RHIA or RHIT preferred • Knowledge of medical terminology • Familiarity with PHI and/or HIPAA requirements • Ability to work independently and gather relevant data accurately • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing • Ability to interpret extensive instructions and deliver results • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions • Ability to critically think through complex situations • Typing speed of at least 60 words per minute • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint • Capacity to learn relevant systems and hospital medical records • Knowledge of database management • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with organizational safety and conduct standards
