📋 Description

• Become a specialist in Upstart’s models, products, business, and/or codebase • Identify problems or opportunities for improvement and communicate them to the team • Conduct self-directed investigations and offline analyses • Present findings to the machine learning team • Research machine learning and statistical approaches to improve predictive performance and/or business value • Design, implement, and evaluate model, product, or technical enhancements through rigorous experimentation and validation • Translate research findings into recommendations, documented methodologies, and production-ready solutions • Align stakeholders with a mentor and drive next steps • Collaborate with experienced machine learning practitioners to improve products and models

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor, Masters or PHD degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, econometrics, computer science, or a related quantitative field • On track to graduate by 2028 • Strong fundamentals in statistical, probability, and machine learning theory • Ability to perform data analysis and evaluate machine learning or statistical models using Python • Basic SQL foundations • Ability to use modern agentic tooling such as Claude Code and Codex efficiently • Experience in supervised learning, model evaluation, and feature engineering techniques (preferred) • Advanced statistical theory/econometrics knowledge (preferred) • Strong coding skills in Python (preferred)
