• Manage an application development team, including staffing, work assignments, performance management, and employee development • Develop and prioritize project plans and requirements • Ensure application development complies with IT policies, security, and regulatory requirements • Establish and maintain communications and working relationships with management across the enterprise • Provide design input and implementation supervision on complex software development projects • Guide staff on work procedures, code reviews, unit tests, security scans, priorities, special requests, and technical issues • Manage moderate to large-sized projects involving multiple technologies and complex business functionality • Transfer system knowledge to junior team members and coach them for continued growth • Lead team collaboration on projects and customer issue resolution • Determine work requirements, priorities, and best use of resources • Perform administrative duties for enterprise applications and systems • Architect, develop, and test new applications • Monitor and measure individual performance; provide feedback and training • Mentor staff and hold regular meetings with direct reports • Participate in hiring new employees • Travel approximately 20% of the time, including possible weekends/nights to support projects
• Bachelor's Degree; equivalent work experience or demonstrated competency may substitute • Experience as a Team Lead on an Application Development Team • 7+ years of IT experience, including 5 years focused on large-scale application development and application system design • Experience managing customer requirements or demands • Advanced knowledge of IT application development principles and practices • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, client-server, web, and service-oriented architecture • Understanding of complex automated systems • Knowledge of project management life cycle practices and tools for Agile and Waterfall methodologies • Ability to prioritize resources and work within time constraints • Demonstrated leadership and staff supervision abilities • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Relationship management skills and a highly collaborative workstyle • Excellent detail orientation and organizational skills • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with an MBA or Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field • Preferred: Background in insurance or financial industry • Preferred: Experience with Life and Disability, Dental, and/or medical insurance industry, business processes, and products • Preferred: Experience with Benefit Administration Systems, Source Control, Automation Tools, and USAble applications • Preferred: Previous application development supervisor or Team Lead experience with formal leadership training • Eastern or Central Standard Time zone candidates preferred; other time zones encouraged to apply • Travel required 20% of the time • Normal working conditions with no adverse or hazardous conditions
