📋 Description

• Provide strategic leadership, tactical insights, and substantive expertise in managing professional liability claims • Report to the Chief Legal Officer • Oversee the Claims Management team • Manage the company’s insurance portfolio and broader risk management strategy • Lead claims handlers managing litigation and compensable events • Implement strategies to minimize professional liability exposure and costs • Analyze data to predict future exposure and reduce claims and expenses • Manage professional liability claims, including pro se claims and healthcare-service claims involving patients in correctional facilities • Coordinate with multiple outside law firms • Oversee the Clinical Risk Management department, including the correctional health clinical claims director nurse • Develop a comprehensive risk management model • Collaborate with operational, clinical, and compliance leaders to align risk management practices with company values

🎯 Requirements

• Graduate of ABA-accredited law school • Minimum of 15+ years of legal experience in litigation, and litigation and risk management • Healthcare industry experience required • Experience preferably in both a law firm and in-house environment • Working knowledge of common federal healthcare regulatory elements, including HIPAA and fraud/abuse/waste avoidance • Expertise and significant experience handling medical malpractice litigation and professional liability claims management required • Experience managing and defending 8th Amendment, 42 USC 1983, and similar cases highly desirable • Licensed to practice law and admitted to the bar in at least one state or the District of Columbia • Eligible for admission as In-House Counsel in Tennessee • Must remain in good standing with the Board of Professional Responsibility • Must reside in the United States
