• Research various legal questions • Draft licensing agreements • Develop internal and external policies • Spearhead individualized projects under the supervision and guidance of a Legal Department attorney • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings • Collaborate with the supervising attorney on projects • Receive feedback and support while learning the practical dimensions of in-house legal practice at a web-based company
• Current law student or recent law school graduate • High energy for and commitment to the Wikimedia Foundation's free knowledge mission • Interest in free culture issues, digital rights, open source software, Creative Commons licensing, and related areas • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, multitasking environment with fast turn-arounds • Intellectual curiosity and flexibility to tackle difficult and ambiguous problems creatively • Experience working with large online user communities, or desire to do so • Ability to flourish in a highly transparent and collaborative environment and work with teams of diverse demographic and cultural characteristics • Excellent writing skills adaptable to communicating complex legal concepts to broad audiences • Completed coursework in some or all of internet law, freedom of expression, intellectual property, contract drafting, international law, privacy, data security, and/or licensing is not required; experience in these areas is heavily preferred • Current work authorization in the employee's location for non-US hires • Candidates with strong research backgrounds, wiki or Wikimedia project experience, agreement/policy drafting experience, relevant coursework, or multilingual abilities are preferred or a plus
