📋 Description

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the company's engineering function across landfill operations, renewable energy assets, and environmental compliance initiatives • Develop engineering standards and lead capital project planning • Drive operational excellence and ensure engineering activities support safety, sustainability, regulatory, and financial objectives • Partner with Operations, Environmental Compliance, Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Fleet, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and senior leadership teams • Manage monthly processes for Landfill Capital projects submitted to WM investment committee meetings • Manage WM’s annual Engineer Training Program, including recruiting, hiring, and program management • Provide technical support for WM’s Enterprise Risk programs and Wastewater Solutions team • Manage the P&L of the corporate Engineering Team department, including a total annual budget of approximately $3.5M+ • Lead and manage a 10+ person team • Budget annual LF Capital and Final Capping and perform monthly forecasting • Manage WM’s annual LF Workbook program and engineering reviews of LF Workbooks • Conduct environmental, compliance, and property condition due diligence reviews of acquisitions • Manage WM’s corporate CAD team, airspace policies and procedures, annual airspace reports, and overfill certification documentation • Develop and manage Reality Capture, DroneDeploy, and Autodesk Construction Cloud platforms and processes • Implement enterprise-level GHG emission strategies, including scenario planning, GHG capital budgeting and tracking, and emissions risk and opportunity management • Lead strategies for data analytics, process improvement, long-term capital planning, and modernization of the financial planning process • Develop AUF improvement analytics and facility fill sequence plans as part of WM’s Reality Capture platform implementation

🎯 Requirements

• Must live and work in the US • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline • 10+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience focused on solid waste and landfills • Experience managing large-scale capital projects and engineering teams • Strong knowledge of engineering design, construction, asset management, and project execution • Demonstrated success partnering with operations and executive leadership teams • Strong financial, analytical, and project management skills • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities • Ability to use motor coordination with finger dexterity most of the work day • Ability to exert physical effort handling objects less than 30 pounds rarely • Ability to work with occasional exposure to physical occupational risks • Ability to work with occasional exposure to dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, or similar elements • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred • Master's degree preferred • Experience within environmental services, waste management, recycling, renewable energy, industrial infrastructure, or heavy operations preferred • Familiarity with landfill operations, transfer stations, MRFs, RNG, or environmental compliance requirements preferred • Must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative if required for air travel or federal property access
