📋 Description

• Identify weaknesses in manuscripts’ overall arguments and structures, including research gaps, repetition, AI-associated distinctive language overuse, weak transitions, and sections requiring expansion or removal • Reorganize, tighten, and rewrite passages to strengthen structure, clarity, tone, and argument while preserving the author’s distinctive voice • Suggest or verify citations from classical or contemporary scholarship • Communicate directly with authors to suggest edits and collaboratively work through revisions • Incorporate peer-review feedback into subsequent drafts • Coordinate with the style and copyediting team to ensure manuscripts meet Yaqeen’s citation and transliteration standards

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience developmentally editing long-form, non-fiction, research-based manuscripts, preferably in religion, politics, or world affairs • Experience collaboratively working with authors and scholars through iterative revisions • Ability to independently manage a defined scope of work against a project timeline • Proven ability to adapt sophisticated theological, philosophical, ethical, or legal arguments into engaging prose for readers with different levels of Islamic knowledge and backgrounds • Ability to identify assumptions, overclaims, inconsistencies, weak evidence, anticipated objections, and areas requiring clarification • Ability to formulate sound and appealing arguments linguistically and structurally • Proven ability to preserve an author’s voice while improving clarity, authority, accessibility, and reader engagement • Proven grounding in the Islamic sciences, with ability to critically engage religious content, catch errors, and identify credible sources
