📋 Description

• Serve as primary day-to-day legal contact for assigned Zillow Home Loans mortgage products • Provide full-lifecycle counsel from concept and design through launch and iteration • Advise product and engineering teams on state and federal mortgage regulations • Partner with AI/ML engineering teams on compliance guardrails for AI-enabled and agentic features • Test model outputs and develop evaluation criteria for legal and regulatory compliance • Advise on product design, disclosures, mortgage content, pre-approval, and loan application experiences • Embed with business partners on first-impression issues, pilot programs, and key initiatives • Deliver legal risk analysis and recommendations to senior management • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and data-rights agreements • Partner with compliance, privacy, fair lending, marketing, and communications teams • Educate product, engineering, and business partners on mortgage and lending legal requirements

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience with a national or regional law firm or in-house legal department • Meaningful consumer finance, mortgage, or product counseling experience • In-house experience at a mortgage lender, fintech, or prop tech company strongly preferred • JD with active state bar admission in at least one jurisdiction • Substantive command of the mortgage and consumer lending regulatory framework, including RESPA, TILA, ECOA, UDAAP, and state mortgage licensing • Experience advising on product development and providing practical regulatory guidance • Experience drafting and negotiating vendor, technology, or services agreements • General familiarity with GLBA, TCPA, and emerging state and federal AI/algorithmic regulation is a plus • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently manage competing, time-sensitive projects • Sound judgment about consulting subject matter experts and escalating matters • Ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate across departments and levels
