• Lead and oversee full-cycle payroll processing for a diverse portfolio of Canadian clients • Process weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll cycles accurately and on time • Manage new hires, compensation changes, terminations, ROEs, taxable benefits, statutory holiday pay, commissions, deductions, EHT, WSIB, RRSPs, and other complex transactions • Review payroll calculations, reconciliations, remittances, filings, and year-end information slips including T4 and T4A • Maintain knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial payroll requirements • Identify compliance, accuracy, timing, and service risks proactively • Act as senior escalation point for complex payroll questions, discrepancies, CRA matters, government registrations, and related issues • Build trusted client relationships and provide proactive payroll and compliance guidance • Own client concerns from identification through resolution • Perform detailed payroll data, reconciliation, deduction, remittance, and reporting reviews and audits • Use WagePoint and Karbon to improve accuracy, visibility, efficiency, and communication • Identify opportunities to automate or streamline recurring payroll activities • Lead improvements to workflows, controls, documentation, and standardized procedures • Develop and maintain payroll SOPs, checklists, training resources, and step-by-step procedures • Serve as a payroll subject-matter resource for Cloud Accountants and team members • Provide guidance, coaching, and support on payroll questions and complex client situations • Research payroll legislation, CRA guidance, and industry practices and communicate updates • Collaborate with the Payroll Lead, Cloud Finance Services Team, founders, and clients to improve service quality and payroll capabilities
• Minimum of 4–5 years of progressive full-cycle Canadian payroll experience • Experience preferably supporting multiple businesses or clients simultaneously • Ability to independently manage complex payroll portfolios and resolve escalated issues • Strong understanding of Canadian federal and provincial payroll legislation, tax requirements, remittances, year-end reporting, and government filings • Exceptional accuracy and strong analytical skills • Experience with payroll software and cloud-based systems • Interest in automation, reporting, and technology-enabled process improvement • Ability to build client trust and communicate complex payroll matters clearly • Ability to manage multiple priorities and relationships • Comfortable providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to colleagues • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and able to work independently with limited supervision • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Professionalism, discretion, integrity, and confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll and employee information • Ability to stay current with payroll legislation, CRA guidance, technology, and evolving best practices • Initiative and entrepreneurial mindset • Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset • Additional payroll certification or related accounting credentials are an asset • Must live in and be eligible to work in Canada
