📋 Description

• Build and maintain a long-term vision and six-month roadmap for Platform & Infrastructure • Grow the Platform & Infrastructure team by hiring ICs and managers and creating a headcount plan • Determine whether specialized roles such as Database Administrator are needed • Build and maintain an excellent relationship with Product Engineering • Enable Product Engineering to move quickly without compromising performance or reliability • Assess and improve monitoring and incident management processes • Improve uptime measurement and coordination with Support during incidents • Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate pricing for AWS, ClickHouse, Datadog, and Braintrust • Manage managers and likely hire a manager within the first six months • Potentially manage developer experience and developer tools and build a dedicated DevEx team • Lead Platform & Infrastructure performance and reliability strategy • Help preserve Ashby’s engineering culture, speed, quality, autonomy, and ownership • Ship product, feature, and infrastructure changes during the first three months • Create and refine a six-month onboarding plan • Complete 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, and six-month reviews with the CTO • Participate in a five-round interview process and reference checks

🎯 Requirements

• Important leadership role through a high-growth period, as an IC Lead or Engineering Leader • Experience making high-quality decisions under pressure while balancing short-term fixes with long-term investments • Experience hiring and building hiring processes, including designing interviews, interview loops, and leading hiring strategy • Track record of excellent collaboration with Product Engineering, Product, Sales, or Support • Knowledge of platform and infrastructure technologies, networking, and hardware • Knowledge of Kubernetes, traffic flow between Load Balancers and Pods, and underlying hardware/cloud abstraction interactions • Excellent communication skills, particularly in writing • Experience managing managers • Comfortable managing a team spanning the Americas West Coast to Europe • Must live in the PST-GMT time zone • Enjoys coding and stays up-to-date on technology • Able to lead engineering departments, define and evolve culture and processes • Experience or willingness to manage developer experience and developer tools; if absent, DevEx reports to Product Engineering • Willingness to participate in a technical screen pairing in Ashby's codebase • Must provide references from a former manager, two direct reports, and a peer in Engineering • No educational credential is specified
