📋 Description

• Translate spoken work situations including lectures, conversations, and meetings • Use technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings • Read original documents and translate them into the required language • Edit translated versions • Account for cultural sensitivity between source and target languages • Facilitate communication for individuals with language barriers across education, legal, medical, environmental, and social services contexts • Report to the Deputy Program Manager • Remain available for on-call potential assignments • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• High School/BA Degree or equivalent in years of experience • Medical Interpreting Training School qualification • Foreign Service Institute qualification • Legal Translation online certifications • Certified Translation Professional (CPT) • AOC certification • ATA certification • NAJIT certification • Commission for Healthcare Interpreters certification • Fluency in one or more of German, Haitian Creole, Japanese, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Nepali, Oromo, Romanian, Somali, Thai, or Ukrainian • Must be able to pass a background check; additional checks may be required by projects or clients • Ability to facilitate communication with discretion and impartiality • Proficiency in oral and written communication • Broad knowledge across varied topics • Social awareness and empathy for interpretation • Ability to track and remember information while interpreting simultaneously • Physical stamina and dexterity for extended interpretation sessions • Problem-solving skills • Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat • Ability to manage multiple tasks • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to establish a productive professional workspace • Ability to use computers and office productivity tools at sufficient speed • Must be able to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen • Must be available for on-call work and potentially work outside normal business hours
