• Own how Dispel's on-premises software gets built, packaged, shipped, updated, and observed • Own the build and packaging pipeline for OS images, packages, container images, and release bundles • Make on-premises builds reproducible and verifiable with pinned inputs, deterministic outputs, signed artifacts, and SBOMs • Design versioning and compatibility models across appliance, cloud-side, and orchestration components • Automate idempotent appliance provisioning • Own update delivery, staging, application, verification, rollback, and fleet-level release control • Extend the appliance runtime for local telemetry, preprocessing, buffering, store-and-forward, and local decisioning • Define edge-versus-cloud processing using bandwidth, latency, and data-residency evidence • Own appliance resource discipline and local observability • Own supply-chain integrity, signing keys, trust roots, and artifact provenance • Build appliance-in-a-loop tests and validate upgrade, downgrade, hardware, and near-hardware paths • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis • Partner with field, support, customer-facing engineering, security, compliance, product, and engineering leadership • Write runbooks, upgrade notes, and architecture documentation • Mentor IC1 and IC2 engineers and participate in interview loops • Participate in an on-call rotation, including after-hours troubleshooting as needed
• 5+ years of professional engineering experience shipping software on infrastructure the employer does not operate • Experience owning release and update mechanisms for deployed edge, appliance, embedded, or on-premises enterprise systems • Deep Linux systems fluency, including systemd, boot/init, filesystems, partitions, kernels, package lifecycle, and distribution assembly • Strong packaging and distribution experience with Debian/apt, OCI images, image-based or A/B updates, or equivalent • Experience with artifact signing and repository operation • Proficiency in at least one of Go, Rust, Python, or C, with ability to read code across packaged layers • Comfortable using coding agents such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code • Infrastructure-as-code proficiency, primarily Ansible and Terraform • Container runtime and orchestration experience on constrained nodes and datacenters • Infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD experience, including Terraform, GitHub Actions, or similar, producing release artifacts • Solid networking fundamentals: routing, DNS, firewalls, and VPN concepts • Ability to work with cross-team stakeholders and deliver with minimal oversight • Willingness to accept failure and feedback, learn, and try again • Passion for learning new disciplines and understanding teammates' work • Clear, succinct communication in person and over team chat
