📋 Description

• Handle on-demand telephone interpreting sessions between Sylheti and English speakers • Render accurate meanings and concepts according to established interpretation protocols • Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions • Remain calm during difficult, emotional, or emergency calls, including 911 calls • Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours • Follow client instructions and protocol while avoiding unauthorized interaction with the limited-English-speaking person • Apply terminology and procedures across medical, insurance, finance, law, government, utilities, travel, hospitality, business, court, and 911 settings • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competency • Process information quickly and concisely during potentially high call volumes • Work from a quiet and secure home office • Provide verbal interpretation; the position does not involve written translation

🎯 Requirements

• Fluency in Sylheti and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills • Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive conversations • Ability to adapt to LanguageLine Solutions technology enhancements • Must be at least 18 years of age • Legally authorized to work in the United States • US work authorization that does not now or in the future require visa sponsorship • High school diploma or equivalent • Dedicated personal device for business purposes • Desktop/laptop with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS; tablets and smartphones are acceptable • High-speed internet with at least 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, ping no more than 300 ms, and jitter no more than 30 ms • Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction • Ability to operate a keyboard, mouse, and company-provided software and systems • Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write • Ability to lift up to 26 lbs • Education or work experience in language-related fields preferred • Ability to read and write the requested languages highly preferred
