📋 Description

• Lead and manage a team of data reporters and editors • Set standards for reporting, writing and production across data-driven series • Edit data journalism for accuracy, clarity, fairness and narrative strength • Develop and pitch story and series ideas • Guide projects from concept through publication with reporters, editors and graphics staff • Coach and develop reporters and editors in data skills and writing • Own the editorial quality and integrity of the team's output • Partner with survey and research specialists to ensure accurate, well-sourced reporting • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration so stories publish on time • Develop new data-driven series and identify valuable datasets • Help guide and shape topical surveys and research

🎯 Requirements

• 7–10+ years of relevant newsroom experience • Strong track record in data-driven or investigative reporting and editing • Demonstrated leadership or team management experience in a newsroom • Sharp editorial judgment and strong editing skills, especially for data-heavy stories • Comfort working with data of varying quality and completeness • Ability to identify inconsistencies in data • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams • Experience editing or producing recurring data series or investigative projects preferred • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as R or Python preferred • Experience with data visualization techniques preferred • Legal industry reporting or research experience preferred • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously • Degree in journalism, public policy, political science, economics, statistics or a related field preferred
