📋 Description

• Administer the accounting system, including the general ledger, journal entries, and monthly book closing • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, including coding, payments, collections, and documentation • Reconcile bank and investment accounts and review complex coding and reconciliation items • Coordinate semi-monthly payroll processing across domestic and international payroll systems • Maintain segregation of duties and strengthen internal controls • Lead the annual audit and Form 990 preparation process • Monitor funder-specific reporting requirements and regulatory compliance • Develop project budgets for grant and contract proposals • Track financial deadlines, deliverables, and payment schedules across grants, contracts, and fiscal sponsorships • Prepare funder invoices and financial reports • Maintain grants and contracts financial records in the database system • Prepare monthly financial reports, including profit-and-loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, budget-to-actual analyses, and project-level financials • Support annual budgeting and revisions, income projections, and cash flow forecasts • Analyze and communicate the Institute's financial position, trends, risks, and recommendations • Lead evaluation, implementation, and administration of financial systems and integrations • Document financial procedures and implement process improvements • Lead, train, supervise, and support the professional development of finance support staff • Advise the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Management Team on financial strategy and organizational planning • Support financial literacy and respond to staff requests for financial information • Partner with the HR Manager on finance-related HR, benefits, and retirement plan administration requirements

🎯 Requirements

• Experience managing accounting and financial operations for an organization of comparable scale and complexity, such as an operating budget of $10–20M or comparable grants and contracts volume and complexity • Demonstrated experience with fund accounting and restricted grant/contract compliance, ideally within a nonprofit organization • Experience with general ledger and accounting software • Experience supervising staff and reviewing the work of others • Strong understanding of internal controls and segregation-of-duties best practices • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance audiences • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment • CPA preferred, not required • Experience implementing or migrating financial systems • Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM/grants database • Experience working with international payroll or contractor arrangements • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience is preferred • No immigration or relocation assistance is available
