• Resolve patient accounts timely and appropriately in accordance with organizational goals • Collect deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, and payments toward self-pay accounts • Perform in-depth demographic and financial assessments, generally at the bedside, to determine appropriate payor sources • Assist patients and contact outside agencies, including Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Health and Human Services, and Social Security Administration • Collaborate with Social Work and Outcomes Management to support appropriate patient care transitions • Interview patients or representatives to obtain complete and accurate demographic and financial information • Analyze collected information and ensure patients receive consideration for financial assistance • Eliminate all possible payor sources before considering hospital sponsorship • Explain estimated financial responsibility and insurance terms; request and process payments and issue receipts • Monitor high-dollar accounts and ensure accurate information for timely submission and reimbursement • Initiate authorization and insurance verification processes and communicate changes to relevant departments • Coordinate and delegate referrals to the Department of Health and Human Services and monitor application completion • Maintain professional relationships with patients, peers, clinical departments, payor organizations, and industry organizations • Maintain revenue cycle knowledge through review of payor regulations and guidelines • Explore payor source options such as COBRA, liability, workers' compensation, and governmental agencies • Contact Social Security Administration, schedule appointments, assist with interviews and forms, and facilitate disability determinations • Coordinate referrals to outsource vendors for post-discharge follow-up • Complete revenue-cycle special projects, including complex patient review, Communicare coordination, and financial counseling at other facilities • Escalate issues to appropriate management
• High School diploma or equivalent OR Post High School Diploma • 3 years of Health Care Revenue Cycle Experience, such as Billing, Collections, and/or Customer Service • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience in a service industry may be substituted for the stated education/experience requirements • Knowledge of computer systems and financial counseling processes • Knowledge of governmental, managed care, and other third-party payor regulations and guidelines • Ability to perform demographic and financial assessments • Ability to analyze financial information and determine appropriate payor sources • Ability to follow HIPAA guidelines • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, representatives, departments, payor organizations, and agencies • Ability to coordinate referrals and assist with applications and disability determination processes
