📋 Description

• Perform and coordinate electrical substation design from 12 kV to 500 kV, including layouts and station service systems • Lead preparation and review of one-line and phasing diagrams, substation layouts, grounding/grid layouts, and conduit and cable routing plans • Perform and independently check grounding, lightning protection, switchyard illumination, and rigid and flexible bus studies • Own assigned design packages and ensure quality, completeness, and alignment with project requirements • Prepare and review design criteria, technical specifications, reports, and drawing lists • Review vendor drawings and technical submissions for compliance with project specifications and design intent • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to RFIs, issuing technical clarifications, and participating in field reviews • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and constructability assessments • Collaborate with civil/structural, protection & control, and telecom teams • Manage assigned project tasks within scope, schedule, and budget constraints • Guide and mentor junior EITs and designers • Maintain project documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement • Integrate applicable safety standards, codes, and best practices into designs

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for / working toward P.Eng. designation with EGBC • 2–5 years of relevant experience in transmission & distribution or substation design • Demonstrated experience in substation design, including layouts, grounding, and bus design; BC Hydro or utility project experience is an asset • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards, including Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, IEC, CSA, and OH&S • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, WINIGS, ETAP, or similar engineering tools • Experience applying engineering tools in project settings • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical, technically sound solutions • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to interface effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
