• Assist with the day-to-day operation of payroll staff at Territorial Headquarters • Provide payroll program support to divisions, units, and ministries • Oversee payroll operations and reporting processes • Manage employee and officer payroll deductions, including union dues, garnishments, charitable contributions, and statutory or voluntary deductions • Coordinate reconciliation, remittance, and disbursement of deductions to external agencies, vendors, unions, and charitable organizations • Respond to and resolve payroll inquiries from employees, officers, pensioners, ministry units, and divisional stakeholders • Support year-end payroll activities, reporting, and compliance processes • Prepare payroll-related financial information, analyses, and reports • Generate payroll, salary, and budget worksheets for workforce planning and financial management • Maintain payroll documentation and records for audit activities • Contribute to salary disclosures, annual financial statement information, and payroll accounting deliverables • Lead and support special projects, process improvements, and other payroll-related initiatives
• Completion of a three-year college diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered • Minimum two years of full-cycle payroll experience • Experience in a unionized environment operating across Canada • Knowledge of payroll processes, HR systems, and key business practices in an integrated, cross-functional environment • Experience supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades, or process enhancements • Proficiency with payroll systems and PC-based applications • Ability to manage and analyze payroll data accurately • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Ability to respond effectively to employee and stakeholder inquiries • Commitment to high-quality customer service and positive working relationships • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills • Ability to support and uphold The Salvation Army’s mission, values, and health and safety policies and procedures
