📋 Description

• Write clear, concise, elegant, and well-tested code • Work as part of a small, agile, integrated product team focused on continual improvement and mutual learning • Translate complex, cross-system challenges into well-defined execution plans • Deliver code beyond what is strictly assigned • Take responsibility for monitoring or alerts needed to support and maintain new initiatives post-launch • Have a substantial impact on the team’s pace and quality of deliverables • Assist other team members in solving problems and developing their skills • Provide valuable technical insights, including creating abstraction layers and applying advanced software design principles • Reduce friction for the team through difficult and useful refactors • Take complete ownership of major initiatives or complex tasks from definition to delivery • Work with external stakeholders to understand end goals when required • Create delivery plans for entire initiatives • Provide expertise that improves software delivery beyond the immediate team • Deliver solutions that provide value to other Engineering teams and make them widely available • Facilitate technical planning discussions between teams or departments • Solve challenging problems through deep and broad technical expertise • Find opportunities to raise the skill level of Engineers outside the team • Collaborate in cross-functional teams with Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to deliver financial products at scale

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years building production web applications, including backend services in Python/Django (Ruby/Rails a strong plus) • Degree in Computer Science or related • Frontend experience with React and TypeScript (GraphQL/Apollo a plus) • Experience integrating with third-party financial or payroll APIs, including webhooks, pagination, idempotency, retries, and keeping data in sync • Strong grasp of data modelling and source-of-truth design across multiple services • Experience finding and fixing performance bottlenecks • Hands-on experience with observability, including Datadog metrics, traces and monitors, monitors-as-code with Terraform, and reducing alert noise • Experience shipping changes with feature flags and staged rollouts • Experience using analytics such as Amplitude to judge release success • Ability to write clear technical documentation, including design docs, runbooks and investigation write-ups • Occasional requirement to be on-call outside of standard hours • Nice to have: payroll, tax or fintech domain knowledge; event-driven systems such as Kafka; careful handling of PII
