📋 Description

• Own the technical vision for a domain such as claims, underwriting, infrastructure, or another tightly coupled systems area • Partner with a Technical Product Manager to turn business problems into initiatives and projects • Write high-level technical requirements covering system approach, scalability, security, and integration • Coordinate with other Engineering Leads to identify reuse opportunities and avoid redundant systems • Make decisions about technical debt and communicate trade-offs to the Technical Product Manager and VP of Engineering • Own and maintain context architecture, documentation, design patterns, and domain knowledge • Estimate project size and define achievable work for multi-month projects • Advise the VP of Engineering on Project Lead assignments • Run technical reviews for funded projects and ensure approaches fit systems and technical standards • Answer architectural questions during implementation • Set, maintain, and enforce shared technical standards • Contribute to decisions on AI tooling and development practices • Write code and build systems, including solving the hardest problems in the domain • Serve as Project Lead when needed • Evaluate emerging AI development frameworks, tools, and practices • Review production incidents, identify architectural root causes, and improve the architecture • Mentor engineers and coach Project Leads through technical decisions

🎯 Requirements

• Deep experience designing, building, and operating complex software systems • Experience building durable systems and maintaining inherited systems • Ability to operate as both architect and individual contributor • Demonstrated experience reviewing technical work from other engineers • Proficiency with Python, Django, Amazon Web Services (AWS), React, and PostgreSQL • Proficiency developing with AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) • Experience setting technical direction across teams without being the manager • Domain curiosity about insurance • Ability to communicate clearly across engineering, product, and business • Low ego and high Emotional Quotient (EQ) • Experience working with distributed, remote teams
