📋 Description

• Develop Layer1 control software managing physical-layer connectivity from 1GBASE-T connectors to 1.6T long-reach optics • Support software across forwarding engines, connectors, and interface chips/gearboxes • Build instrumentation and telemetry tools to monitor and troubleshoot physical link health • Work with Optics teams to define standards for new media and bring them to market • Interface with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to develop Layer1 features • Architect, design, and manage feature development • Develop and maintain features using C, C++, and Python • Review and contribute to functional and design specifications • Build automated tests and test infrastructure • Work with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new Layer1 components, including PHYs and transceivers, to market • Collaborate with hardware engineers on software control interfaces for Layer1 components • Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools • Analyze, mitigate, and fix customer network problems with Customer Support Engineers and customers • Analyze system-test issues and provide fixes • Mentor new and junior engineers • Own projects from definition through deployment and customer interactions, ensuring delivered quality

🎯 Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience, or MS in one of these fields plus 6 years of experience, or Ph.D. in one of these fields plus 3 years of experience, or equivalent work experience • Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python • Knowledge of UNIX or Linux • Knowledge of digital communication technologies such as modulation and signal encoding schemes is a plus • Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus • Experience working with low-level hardware components is a plus • Applied understanding of software engineering principles • Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills • Ability to design solutions and implement features independently • Ability to work in small teams
