📋 Description

• Contribute to the technical direction and vision for search capabilities • Design and implement new search features and enhancements to search functionality • Resolve bugs and improve code understandability • Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver speed and relevance in search • Build new search features and occasionally develop algorithms or data structures close to the operating system and hardware • Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on Elasticsearch vector search • Identify and drive improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance • Work with community members on issues and pull requests, including triage, handoff, and resolution • Write idiomatic modern Java

🎯 Requirements

• Implemented novel techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a large user base or progressed the field of academic research in vector similarity information retrieval • Professional experience with search or vector databases • Experience using HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms and libraries on search platforms at scale • Solid skills in core Java, including standard library data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas • Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from beginning to end, including technical design and developing components with other engineers • Experience collaborating on code, approaches, and APIs, including internet-based and asynchronous collaboration • Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and transition between projects, codebases, or teams based on business priorities • Ability to drive decisions and results in a distributed team through asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication
