📋 Description

• Work in Rust on Penpot's rendering engine, built with WASM, Rust, and Skia • Work on the text editor and ongoing performance improvements • Fix bugs, improve performance, and build new rendering-engine features • Improve Penpot's browser smoothness and response times • Interface with frontend development, especially data transfer between Clojure and the engine • Work autonomously in a horizontal team without a manager figure • Participate in shared decision-making • Collaborate with software developers and Penpot creators within the product team • Attend periodic cross-team meetings about business and product status • Contribute to an open-source design platform connecting designers and developers

🎯 Requirements

• Senior, solid, consolidated experience in rendering engines • Prior experience with WASM, Rust, and Skia; comfort improving in these technologies • Experience with game engines, graphics libraries, rasterization, GPU pipelines, or similar is advantageous • Hands-on frontend experience with JavaScript, browser APIs, HTML, and CSS • Regular use of LLMs such as Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or OpenCode • Comfortable working in Linux environments • High level of spoken and written English • Spoken and written Spanish • Ability to read and write technical documentation and speak functionally in English • Familiarity with Clojure or other functional languages is an advantage • Knowledge of JavaScript testing, including Jest and Cypress, is an advantage • Knowledge of end-to-end testing with Playwright is an advantage • Interest in accessibility and responsible development is an advantage • Interest in design systems and product integration is an advantage • Previous experience or genuine interest in open-source projects is an advantage • Experience with agile methodologies is an advantage • Collaboration experience in diverse teams is an advantage • Ability to ask effective product-development questions • Careful testing of own code with unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
